4 of wands

This painting is a part of my Queer Revolution Tarot series. I painted 78 tarot cards based on the themes of traditional decks, but with a gender expansive approach to a traditionally binary categorization. Masculine and feminine are qualities, not bodies, and anybody could embody either or both.

This card represents celebration, joy, relaxation, and homecoming. You have reached a milestone in your creative growth, and now is the time to celebrate with the people you love. Turn to the safety and security of your family—chosen or given—and allow yourself to relax and relish in your success. Take pride in your accomplishments and surround yourself with others who let you know they love you and are proud of you.

The figure in the painting is moving into a new home. She has opened boxes around her, and is choosing where to hang her art. She has leveled up, moved on, and is now quietly basking in her success. Next may come a housewarming party, but for now, she relishes alone. The mirror behind her allows for some reflection. This was the final piece I painted for my tarot project. I deeply identified with the themes of celebration, specifically celebrating with loved ones instead of publicly.
