Dreamscape: Attic
This painting was a part of my choose your own adventure book, You Control the Dream. This book takes the reader through scenarios from my nightmares, allowing them to choose between two options on each of the 70 pages. Like a dream, the plot circles and loops, and the only way to end the dream is to close the book. The title gives a false sense of control, because while the reader can choose between A or B, there is no way to avoid unsafe situations, and there is no way to complete the story.
As you enter the house you are immediately drawn to the attic. Creeping up the stairs, you enter a shadowy room filled with boxes of memories, forgotten furniture, and evidence of mice. Looking around, you begin to feel a sense of urgency. You examine the contents of the attic, looking for something… but what? For some reason it seems so important that you find it… whatever “it” is. You hear a creak somewhere in the house, jolting you back to reality. You don’t want to get trapped up here and should probably leave, but there’s one large wooden box you haven’t investigated yet. Do you want to leave the attic before it’s potentially too late, or do you want to open the box?
