Judgment
This painting is a part of my Queer Revolution Tarot series. I painted 78 tarot cards based on the themes of traditional decks, but with a gender expansive approach to a traditionally binary categorization. Masculine and feminine are qualities, not bodies, and anybody could embody either or both.
This card represents a spiritual awakening, higher calling, and action. After an incredibly long journey, now is the time to release the negative emotions associated with your experience. Guilt, shame, and sadness about things that could be do not serve you. Without carrying that baggage, you’ll be light as air, able to ascend your current situation. The next step of your journey takes place on a higher plane.
The figure stands in the Avenues cemetery overlooking Salt Lake City. The background is obscured by a pattern of human bones floating between the figure and the physical realm of the cemetery. It is painted from a high perspective so the viewer is looking down at the figure and (as best they can) at the obscured cemetery and city.
