Painted Rainbow miniature

I have always felt so much magic around the red rocks of southern utah. The colors, the textures, and the proximity to deep time fascinate me. This painting was an experiment to see if I could visually portray this magic in just 1x1.5 inches. I love working big, adding details upon details, patterns and layers, so working miniature was intriguing and intimidating. There are only so many details you can add. It felt to me like writing a haiku, trying to create something beautiful and unique in the strict structure of syllables.
