Tactile Bliss

This painting is part of my series on connection with my cat, Oliver. These paintings explore the open vulnerability with which people can connect with their pets. How can we connect with those around us in the same way?

This painting explores bliss and the mutual joy that comes from loving touch. The figure has paused in the middle of her slice of cake to get tactile with the cat. Her happiness is palpable, reflected in the glowing colors around her.

Mirrors act as symbols of alternate perspectives in my art. I’m intrigued by reflection and refraction visually and conceptually. The two mirrors reflecting each other allow for a fuller view of the room while also adding to the cacophony around the figure. She is grounded by the cool tones of the couch, grounded in her connection with the cat.
